According to students, the use of artificial intelligence improves the quality of their studies and increases their satisfaction with their studies. The ideal approach is therefore to incorporate the use of artificial intelligence into teaching and teach students how to work effectively with these tools. A research team from the Faculty of Business and Economics conducted a study with management students across eight private and public universities in the Czech Republic.
The study focused specifically on management students who actively use artificial intelligence. “I estimate that the number of students who use AI is high and still growing. Since, in our case, these are students focused on management, it can be assumed that they will encounter AI in their future employment, so they may be more interested in artificial intelligence while still studying,” said Petr Suchánek from the Institute of Business Economics at PEF MENDELU.
Students perceive the use of AI tools positively, which makes them happier, improves their assessment of their studies, and raises their expectations regarding future employment. “It follows that it would be a big mistake to ban AI tools at universities. On the contrary, it is necessary to find a way to enable students to use these tools, or even better, to incorporate them into teaching and teach students how to work effectively with them. This is one of the ways to improve the quality of the school or teaching in the eyes of university-oriented students,” outlined Suchánek. In terms of the use of artificial intelligence, the questionnaire focused on expectations regarding studies and employment, perceived quality of studies, and satisfaction with studies.
The results of the research are most useful for academic staff. “They should integrate artificial intelligence tools into teaching, or at least not prevent it, which means looking for ways in which students can make the best use of these tools in teaching, because then they will be happier and will value the school more and rate it better. Students have certain expectations regarding the use of AI in their studies, which in their eyes increases the quality of their studies and also their satisfaction. But they also have expectations regarding their future work, where AI plays a role,” the researcher summarized.
The research, involving 231 respondents, was conducted at Czech universities or colleges with faculties focusing on economics. “These were both public and private colleges, specifically the Faculty of Business Administration at the University of Economics, the Faculty of Economics and Administration at Masaryk University, Ambis University Prague, Newton College, the Faculty of Management and Economics at Tomas Bata University in Zlín, the Faculty of Informatics and Management at the University of Hradec Králové, the Faculty of Economics at the Technical University of Ostrava, and the Faculty of Economics at the Technical University of Liberec,” Suchánek listed.
