An Exceptional Figure Has Passed Away – Assoc. Prof. Ivan Malý

With deep sorrow, we announce that Assoc. Prof. Ing. Ivan Malý, CSc., passed away at the age of 85.

Assoc. Prof. Ing. Ivan Malý, CSc., specialized in vegetable production. He worked at the Faculty of Horticulture, Department of Breeding and Propagation of Horticultural Plants, at the department’s workplace in Brno. He was an outstanding researcher and devoted educator who always managed to captivate students and inspire interest not only in vegetable cultivation but also in other horticultural commodities. He educated many generations of vegetable production experts who went on to succeed in professional practice.

He had been continuously active at our university and faculty since 1962. His research focused on technological processes in vegetable production, the introduction of new vegetable species, integrated vegetable cultivation, and the nutritional value of vegetables. He authored a large number of scientific, professional, and popular publications and was active in numerous expert committees. Assoc. Prof. Ivan Malý was known for his diligence, passion for horticulture, and profound expertise. He was a respected figure not only in the field of vegetable production but across the entire horticultural community in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

We remember him with respect and gratitude.
