At the end of last week, young florists from across the Czech Republic gathered for the Brno Rose 2024 competition, which this year embraced the theme “In the Spirit of Nature.” The 27th edition of one of the most renowned floristry competitions in the country once again took place in the elegant and perfectly preserved interiors of Brno’s First Republic-era Villa Stiassni.
A total of 17 junior contestants from various schools had the opportunity to showcase their floral artistry in three disciplines: a hand-tied gift bouquet, a nature-inspired piece of jewelry, and a wreath for a garden celebration. The students prepared for the competition under the expert guidance of faculty members from the Faculty of Horticulture at Mendel University in Brno (MENDELU), who provided them with professional support and mentoring.
The competition challenges required the creation of a formally linear hand-tied bouquet using fresh flowers and natural materials with an emphasis on organic aesthetics, a necklace crafted from natural elements, and a wreath designed for an outdoor garden celebration. Each task demanded a high level of creativity, technical skill, and attention to detail, all of which were meticulously evaluated by the expert jury.
Among the students from MENDELU’s Faculty of Horticulture, Valérie Strnadová, a bachelor’s student in the Floristic Design program, particularly stood out. She secured second place for her gift bouquet, impressing the jury with her craftsmanship. Additionally, her nature-inspired jewelry piece won first place in its category, ultimately earning her an overall second-place ranking in the junior category.
Congratulations to all the winners across the different disciplines and to those recognized for their outstanding floral creations!
