On the grounds of the forests managed by Mendel University in Brno, you can now discover around fifty forest springs through a new mobile game — “Forestry Memorial Behind the Water”, designed for curious visitors of the university forests by the Training Forest Enterprise Masaryk Forest Křtiny (ŠLP Křtiny).
To start the game, simply download the TourStories app on your mobile phone and search for the journey titled Forestry Memorial Behind the Water. “I recommend selecting the game in the app, so the stopping points automatically appear on the map. When you approach a particular spring, its details will load via GPS. You can pause the game at any time without losing progress and resume it whenever convenient,” explained Petra Packová.
For each discovered spring, players earn points. To receive the full number of points at each stop, the player must correctly answer a quiz question on the first try. The goal is to collect at least 50 points, after which participants can claim the first part of a small reward at the reception of the Chateau Hotel in Křtiny. Additional rewards are available after reaching 100, 150, and 200 points. The game also offers a challenge to visit all 51 springs, answer all quiz questions, and claim the maximum reward.
“The full score ranges between 200 and 260 points, depending on how many quiz questions are answered correctly on the first try. The best score is, of course, achieved by answering everything correctly the first time. Each player is assigned a game ID where their score is tracked. They’ll present this score at the chateau hotel reception,” clarified Lukáš Haupt from TourStories.
While many springs are easy to find, others are hidden, waiting to be discovered. “I love the diversity of the Training Forest Enterprise’s landscape and explore it regularly, yet there are still places that surprise me — like when I was searching for the spring Floriánek near Alois’s adit. It was thrilling, and I hope those who join the game will see it not just as a chance to enjoy the fresh air or learn something new, but also as a small adventure,” said Packová.
Players can begin their journey from any spring — the starting point is up to them. Each spring features not only a description of its history but also a photo. The Forestry Memorial Behind the Water has no time limit. ŠLP Křtiny also plans to release a future mobile game focused on the memorials of the Forestry Memorial.
Before starting the adventure, the creators recommend downloading offline maps, as mobile signal coverage may be limited in some parts of the forest.
The Forestry Memorial is a unique collection of 90 monuments, 50 springs, and 60 ornamental clearings spread across the Masaryk Forest Křtiny Training Enterprise. The project began in the late 1920s with the aim of connecting forestry, culture, and landscape aesthetics.
