Mendel University in Brno is opening the “Islands of Discovery” exhibition at VIDA! Science Center, focusing on fascinating topics from both natural and social sciences. The exhibition encourages children and adults to ask questions from various fields and explore interactive ways of finding answers. It is on display on the first floor from mid-December 2024 to the end of November 2025. The exhibition was developed with input from scientists across the university who acted as content experts for the various themes.
“Our goal was, among other things, to show that the work of scientists plays a crucial role in solving today’s pressing problems. We wanted to reveal to the public in an entertaining way what researchers at our university are working on and inspire curiosity in children’s minds, which could grow into a passion for science in the coming years,” said Jan Mareš, Rector of Mendel University in Brno.
The exhibition aims to captivate not only children but also adults. “The exhibition shows that the world around us is full of mysteries waiting to be discovered. We also want children to leave with the idea that some discoveries might be waiting for them. At five research nests, they can design the city of the future or explore where water disappears. They will also look at what we will eat in the future and design their own pizza. The youngest visitors will surely enjoy the spyglasses and other interactive elements. We believe everyone will enjoy the chill-out zone, where they will feel like they are in a vibrant university forest,” explained Bára Dvořáková, the author of the exhibition concept.
“This exhibition, marking the anniversary of Mendel University in Brno, brings a bit of nature and new trends in sustainable living to VIDA!, which is essential for our time. I believe that cooperation is the only way forward, and I am pleased that we were able to join forces with MENDELU for this exhibition,” said Tomáš Mejzlík, Director of VIDA! Science Center.
