Two Landscape Projects Succeeded in National Competitions
Academic staff member Lukáš Štefl from the Institute of Green Biotechnology at the Faculty of Horticulture, MENDELU, and his studio have received prestigious awards in two national competitions focused on ecological and innovative approaches to the environment and landscape architecture. These achievements highlight the expertise that our educators bring not only to students and the academic community but also to the broader public.
As part of the Adapterra Awards 2024, which recognizes the best examples of climate change adaptation, the Complete Green Transformation of the Town of Úvaly project won in the Settlements category. This project, gradually implemented since 2016, represents a systematic and conceptual approach to urban greenery in response to climate challenges. The expert jury particularly appreciated the well-crafted master plan and its application, which has introduced new green elements in the town in line with sustainable development and ecological principles.
Another awarded project is the Garden of Green Rooms, which earned a bronze medal in the Garden of the Year 2024 competition organized by the Association for the Establishment and Maintenance of Greenery. This project presents a creative solution for a sloped plot, transforming it into a fully functional family space with carefully designed relaxation, play, and utility zones. The garden features a diverse range of plants, providing aesthetic appeal throughout the year, while green roofs help retain rainwater and enhance the ecological value of the space.
“Today, we celebrate and enjoy the incredible feeling of long-term hard work paying off. We won the Adapterra Awards 2024, showcasing the best examples of urban climate adaptation. We competed with our passion project—the Complete Green Transformation of the Town of Úvaly, which we have been working on with a fantastic team since 2016. Huge thanks to everyone involved, especially the former mayor of Úvaly,” Lukáš Štefl shared on his Facebook profile.
Both projects demonstrate the importance of a responsible and thoughtful approach to public and private spaces, with the greatest reward being the enthusiasm and satisfaction of their users.
