The Faculty of Horticulture at Mendel University in Brno successfully hosted another international summer school as part of the Blended Intensive Programme (BIP). This year’s programme was entitled Sustainable Horticulture of the 21st Century, with the subtitle Shaping the Future of Green Landscapes: From Lab to Field, and brought a total of 21 international students to Lednice. They were joined by two students from MENDELU’s Faculty of Horticulture.

A notable feature of this year’s programme was the strong representation of students from partner institutions within the HEROES alliance. Students from Lithuania’s Vilniaus kolegija (VIKO) and Belgium’s Thomas More University of Applied Sciences took part in the programme, while participants from Romania and Italy completed the international group.

From 22 to 26 June 2026, bachelor’s and doctoral students had the opportunity to learn about the research, educational activities and modern technologies offered by the Faculty of Horticulture. The programme combined expert lectures, practical workshops led by the faculty’s academic staff and researchers, and specialised excursions to horticultural facilities and businesses in South Moravia.

The summer school also included a virtual component, providing students with an opportunity to present their own projects, share their experiences and participate in expert discussions across the universities involved.

The international summer school once again confirmed the important role of MENDELU’s Faculty of Horticulture as an active partner in European cooperation in higher education. In addition to acquiring new specialist knowledge, the students gained valuable international experience, established new contacts and found inspiration for their further studies and professional development.
