1. 7. 2026

The second stage of the university-wide competition Mendelu Boost – Kick-start Your Business Idea! took place on Wednesday. The competition supports innovative entrepreneurial projects developed by students of Mendel University in Brno. The Faculty of Horticulture achieved outstanding success, with its students receiving several prestigious awards.

Kateřina Patloková, a Ph.D. student at the Faculty of Horticulture, together with Lukáš Harabiš from the Faculty of AgriSciences, presented their project FISHIT to the expert panel. The project is an innovative plant biostimulant that they have been developing as part of their studies. It impressed the judges not only for its scientific value but also for its strong focus on sustainability.

The jury awarded the project third place and also presented it with the Sustainability Award, a special recognition for its environmental impact. The biostimulant production technology utilizes waste generated by fish farming and transforms it into an effective product that promotes plant growth. By combining the principles of the circular economy with modern biotechnology, the project offers a practical solution for more sustainable agriculture.

Another remarkable achievement came from Gabriela Vlašicová, a student at the Faculty of Horticulture, whose project Solivar Innovation won second place. The project focuses on the application of biotechnology in honeybee nutrition, helping to translate scientific research into practical solutions. Its goal is to improve the vitality of bee colonies and, consequently, contribute to higher crop yields.

We warmly congratulate both teams on their outstanding achievements and wish them every success in the final stage of the Mendelu Boost competition.
