The Minister of Health, Adam Vojtěch, visited Mendel University in Brno. Together with Rector Martin Klimánek and Vice-Rector Jiří Skládanka, he discussed opportunities for collaboration in the areas of diet, nutrition for children and seniors, as well as nutrition for people with health limitations.
“Connecting science, education, and public policy is essential to ensure high-quality and safe food as well as a healthy lifestyle for the population. Relying on scientifically grounded results is therefore crucial for formulating effective measures and ensuring sustainability in public health,” emphasized Rector Martin Klimánek.
The main topics of the meeting included nutrition and its impact on the health of the population across generations, as well as innovative modern diagnostic methods with the potential for technology transfer and commercialization of research results. Attention was also given to public awareness and the role of media and experts in strengthening it. The visit also included a presentation of MENDELU’s biomedical and biotechnological research.
The meeting was also attended by Zbyněk Heger, Head of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, and Miroslav Jůzl, Head of the Department of Food Technology. Heger introduced the minister to research in biomedicine and oncology with potential for transferring research outputs. Jůzl mentioned a recently established advisory center focused on promoting a healthy lifestyle through nutrition and highlighted nutritional counseling as part of lifelong learning and the intergenerational university.
“It is important to communicate all scientific topics clearly and to connect experts with the public. Only in this way can we strengthen trust in food quality and awareness of a healthy lifestyle,” said Vice-Rector Jiří Skládanka.
Minister of Health Adam Vojtěch praised the professional background of Mendel University and its contributions beyond its historical focus on forestry and agriculture. The meeting opened up opportunities for further cooperation in both research and education.
