A new MENDELU SHOP is ceremonially opening on the ground floor of Building X, where visitors will be able to purchase university merchandise such as hoodies and T-shirts. A new category of promotional items is the Green Choice collection, featuring products such as bags or backpacks made from old advertising banners, as well as scrunchies created from an outdated collection of university shirts.
“The opening of this shop is not just about selling items with a logo. It is about strengthening our shared identity. We want every student, graduate, and employee to proudly represent their alma mater beyond lecture halls. I see this space as another meeting point that reinforces our sense of community and shows the world that we are a united and confident university,” said MENDELU Rector Jan Mareš.
After several years, the sale of university merchandise is moving from a small shop in the basement of Building Q to a full-fledged space on the ground floor of Building X. “We are delighted to begin selling university items in a representative and pleasant environment. Customers will have the opportunity to view and conveniently try on the items, which was difficult in the previous provisional premises,” said Jiřina Studenková, Head of the Communication and Marketing Department at MENDELU. The sale of MENDELU promotional items is finally moving to a space that matches its importance.
In addition to the classic collection of university T-shirts and hoodies in both university-wide and faculty colors, visitors can also look forward to upcycled new products. “We are very proud of the Green Choice collection, which was created as an effort to make use of seemingly waste materials and give them a second life. For the bags, we used banners from the exhibition celebrating 200 years of G. J. Mendel; outdated roll-ups and banners from various events were transformed into backpacks. Shirts with an outdated logo have, thanks to color and a bit of creativity, become popular fabric hair scrunchies,” Studenková explained.
The MENDELU SHOP, which shares space with the study room on the ground floor of Building X and is located directly beneath the student cafeteria, will be open every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the morning, and on Fridays in the afternoon. “We selected the shop’s opening hours with regard to the schedules of both full-time and part-time students, as they are the primary customers,” added shop assistant Andrea Zimolová.
