Do you know your rights and duties?

The role of a student brings with it certain rights, but also duties that issue from the Study and Examination Regulations of MENDELU, from the Universities Act, and also from the selected study programme itself.

Among the rights and duties of students are, for example:

  • the right to elect and be elected to the academic senate of the faculty or university,
  • the right to receive scholarship from the funds of the university if you meet the conditions for receiving it, as defined in the scholarship regulations of the university;
  • the duty to comply with the internal regulations of the faculty and university;
  • the duty to pay the fees related to the study and to state the facts decisive for the value of those fees.

The Study and Examination Regulations order the student to comply with general duties, but also with duties pertaining to the study itself.

General duties:

  • continuously check the records of your study in the UIS and immediately deal with any problems;
  • at least once per 7 calendar days check your electronic mail delivered to your assigned university e-mail address;
  • report to the faculty Study Office any changes in your personal data;
  • upon a notice from the Study Office, come to the Study Office in no less than 7 days from receiving that notice;
  • refrain from any fraudulent or any other dishonest actions toward the university or parts thereof, other students or employees of the university (disciplinary procedure will be launched in case of any violation).

Read more on the rights and duties e.g. in the Sections 62 and 63 of the Universities Act.

Always solve problems in a timely and proactive manner

Plain sailing through the study without encountering a single bump? For that you would need some supernatural powers. It is nothing unusual to encounter a problem during your study, just don’t worry and deal with it as soon as possible.

To resolve all matters quickly and smoothly, first of all read all the related documents and other official sources. After that, find out who can give you advice or help straight away, and ideally, if it is possible, try to resolve your problem on your own and immediately.

What if I get lost?

You could get lost in the heady scent of the roses blooming in our gardens, but also in all sorts of problems. Most commonly these include a failed subject, lax approach to the need to study continuously, and own rank of priorities that does not really put your study first.

So what to do if problems occur? Learn about your rights and duties, do not hide like a badger in his den, and when something comes up, do not hesitate to ask for help.
